# Why Your Team Resists Password Managers (And How to Fix It)

If you are a business owner, you probably manage hundreds of different online accounts. Yet, tech experts like me expect you to have a completely unique, random password for every single one!
It is a lot to handle. It is also a rule that every single person on your team needs to follow to keep your business safe. A password manager, which is software that stores your logins securely, is the easiest way to manage this requirement.
It only works if your team actually uses it. Let’s look at how to get them to adopt it successfully.
## Why New Tech Rollouts Flop (It Isn’t About the Software)
Most of the time, when a business tries to launch a new IT tool, it fails because they ignore the human side of things. If you just buy the software, send out an automated invite link, and tell your team they have 48 hours to figure it out, you are going to face significant pushback.
Your employees are people. If they feel disregarded during technical changes, their performance is going to drop. Enforcing security rules is critical, but you have to do it in a way that makes your team feel supported, not micromanaged.
The truth is, your staff is already exhausted by passwords. They are trying to memorize a dozen different logins just to do their daily tasks. Or worse, they are writing them down on paper notes hidden under their keyboards.
A business password manager should reduce daily stress, not increase it.
## The Human-First Rollout Plan
If you want to secure your company's information without making your team miserable, you need a clear approach. Here is the step-by-step strategy we use to make the transition smooth.
### Give Them a Personal Benefit First
Before you force your employees to use the software strictly for work files, show them how it helps them at home. If your business buys a professional password manager, most of the time the vendor includes free personal and family accounts for your staff.
Encourage them to set up their personal account first. Once an employee realizes how convenient it is to never click the forgot password link on their personal banking, streaming, or shopping accounts, they will naturally welcome the tool when they log in at the office.
### Set Up Shared Folders for Teams
Stop emailing passwords or texting logins around the office when two people need to access the same company account. It is incredibly insecure, and it is a massive waste of time.
Instead, create shared folders inside the password manager for specific departments, like accounting or marketing. This way, when a password changes, it updates automatically for everyone in that group. It eliminates interruptions regarding login credentials completely.
### Clean Out the Browsers
Once your team is comfortable using the password manager, you need to handle one final cleanup step. You will want to tell your web browsers, like Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge, to stop remembering passwords and delete the old ones they are storing. They are much safer in your new dedicated tool, anyway!
Here is how to do that on your machine right now:
#### In Google Chrome
**Click the three-dot icon** on the top right of your browser window and **select Passwords** and **Autofill** > **Google Password Manager**.
Click on **Settings** in the left sidebar, and turn off **Offer to save passwords**.
To clear out old ones, go to **Settings** > **Privacy and security** > **Clear browsing data**. Check the box for **Passwords** **and other sign-in data**, set the time range to **All Time**, and click **Clear data.**
#### In Microsoft Edge
**Click the three-dot icon** on the top right and go to Settings.
Click on **Profiles** > **Passwords**, and turn off **Offer to save passwords**.
Next, go to **Privacy,** **search**, and **services** in the left menu. Scroll down to **Clear browsing data** and click Choose what to clear. Select **only Passwords**, set the time range to **All Time**, and **click Clear Now**.
You don't need to throw thousands of dollars at complicated, restrictive security systems to protect your business. Sometimes it is just a matter of using the technology you already have in better, more effective ways.
