I’m about to say something that is going to sound weird at first, but stay with me here:

I miss the Nigerian Prince scam.

I know, I know, it’s crazy, but let me tell you why: threats were a lot easier to spot.

Nowadays, instead of inflated promises or threats being shared, riddled with grammatical errors and questionable links, scammers can use AI to craft scarily convincing messages that steal the identities of your vendors, customers, and staff members at all levels. Your team could receive instructions from “you” that you would never, ever give.

It used to be that cybercriminals would typically use comically obvious schemes to identify the targets they were most likely to fool before crafting their more targeted, convincing scams. However, empowered greatly by AI, attackers can craft immediately more convincing and personalized attacks by the thousands in the same time they would spend drafting just one… taking advantage of new formats, like audio and video, in addition to the old standbys as they do so.

New Threats, Same Impacts

Unfortunately, all these new technologies have made it all the more likely that businesses will face a variety of challenges, as attacks are harder to catch and avoid. Failing to do so subjects a business to various negative outcomes:

• Thanks to the immediate interruption of an active cyberattack, your operations are subject to increased downtime.
